One of the perks of working with a recruiter is that they will have the inside scoop on the job requirements, the hiring manager, and the company. Because of this, a recruiter may know exactly what the hiring manager or corporate recruiter will be looking for when viewing resumes. They may ask you to modify your resume slightly to show your fitness for the position better. Here are a couple of things to keep in mind when modifying your resume… Do: Go through the job description and highlight any technologies or qualifications you have experience with. When modifying your resume for a specific job, definitely start by going over the qualifications and requirements in the job description. You will want to make sure that not only do you understand what the company is looking for, but that you highlight any relevant experience you have had in the past. Don’t: Falsely claim you have experience that you don’t. While it is good to beef up the pertinent experience you have, do not lie about experience you do not have. Not only will this absolutely come out in any interviews you may be invited to, but you will likely be blacklisted from that company and with that recruiter or hiring manager in the future. Do: Put your relevant experience in the body of your resume, not in the skills section. Anyone can put “Salesforce” in their skills section (see above), but managers and recruiters really want to see when and how you used that technology or skill. Don’t: Mention every instance you have ever used a skill or technology. Ever. Your resume is not a memoir. It does not need to be seven pages long. Be specific, but concise.
